We want to introduce you to a restaurant with great tradition in Sitges. Some of you may already know it, because you ate there in the past, or maybe know its nightlife drinks and cocktails or perhaps you have been there taking a snack on a sunny day on the fantastic terrace overlooking the sea.
For those who do not know it, this is the story of one of our last visits.
PICNIC – A RICE WITH A VIEW IN SITGES
Along with two more couples and their children, we decided to eat at the picnic not long ago. Obviously, we booked a few days before as it is otherwise difficult to find table.
The restaurant is a pleasant space above the Passeig de la Ribera, between the beach and the promenade itself, so the location is ideal and can enjoy spectacular views of the sea and the church from some of the tables.
The space is divided into several areas with a different offer: the terrace on the promenade, the one that’s further from the sea, is dedicated to serving breakfast, snacks and tapas throughout the day and in the evening and it is a bar with a relaxing atmosphere. The inner part is the restaurant itself. The nearest terrace to the sea, glazed and acclimated so that it can be enjoyed both, winter and summer, is divided into a side for the restaurant and one for the tapas bar. During the summer you can also enjoy the WaiPiqui, the beach bar, where you can rent a hammock and order a cocktail, snack or some tapas to enjoy them all with your feet on the sand. You can check the entire offer of the Restaurant Picnic on its complete and detailed web: PICNIC
Returning to our last visit to the restaurant, as we went with a group of friends, we had the opportunity to try several dishes and everything was better than good.
Our feast started with a selection of tapas (small dishes to share) composed of "melonjito" (diced marinated salmon with mojito jelly), a very original patatas bravas (spicy potatoes) with garlic mayonnaise foam flavored with curry, Galician octopus perfectly cooked to perfection, cuttlefish grilled with caramelized onions and crispy beans with Catalan sausage bags. All guests have agreed that all the dishes were well cooked and presented. We have also positively evaluated the creativity of the spicy potatoes, which were amazing.
For the main course we opted for two rice dishes, although we must admit that the decision was tough because they were all more than appealing.
The rice with prawns, mushrooms and chimichurri sauce pleasantly surprised us. It is a soupy rice where the taste and smell of mushrooms dominate over the prawns, quite mild, but the combination of both flavors, along with quite powerful fish soup and the chimichurri sauce that usually accompanies meat dishes, has been a real discovery.
The octopus rice with artichokes is a drier rice option that we already had tried on previous visits, but our companions did not know it and have loved it.
For dessert we were all pretty full and we decided to share an apple tatin tart with vanilla ice cream and a fluid chocolate cake, the typical chocolate coulant. Both desserts were correct.
Five children who accompanied us shared a pica-pica and rice "a banda" (with only the flavor but no pieces of fish on it) for three and it was spectacular: dry and very fishy taste. As a dessert, three of our small guests have chosen the tiramisu, which was really different and good.
The wine list is quite extensive, with a good selection of wines and champagnes from the area. We have opted for a Viladellops Xarel.lo. A safe bet to accompany the dishes we had chosen.
A good thing of the Picnic restaurant for our foreign visitors is that its staff is multilingual and the menu is offered in several languages ... even in Russian!
We also appreciated the selection of dishes suitable for celiacs and the children's menus, demonstrating the will of the owners to adapt to all clients.
The total bill was about 350 € for 6 adults and 5 children.
